How does ultra-high-pressure firefighting work?

UHP firefighting uses the high pressure to atomize the water i.e. reduce droplet size. This has the following effect:

  • The surface area of the water is extremely increased due to the atomisation of the water.

1 liter of water = 1700 liters of steam

  • The vapor acts  as an inert gas, lowering the oxygen level in the air thus smothering the fire

  • In addition, the energy required to evaporate the water instantly cools the fire

This combined effect leads to very short extinguishing times with minimal water consumption.

Advantages

Efficient firefighting with small amounts of water (approx. 20 liters of water is needed to extinguish a vehicle fire):

  • Compact, affordable systems that fit in cars and pickups

  • Minimizing water damages in buildings

  • Firefighting possible in remote areas without water supply

Large fires in cities account for up to 2-3% of all fires. In rural areas this proportion rises to 20-30% due to the later arrival of firefighters.

The use of smaller vehicles enables a faster arrival and thus significantly reduces the number of major fires!

Off-road vehicles such as ATVs, UTVs and SUVs allow firefighters very quick access to remote locations on difficult terrain!
